Practice History

1980’s

In 1986 Dr Stephen Gunn joined Drs Duncan Sayner and Leak.

At this time Witton Surgery consisted of just the ground floor of 29 Preston Old Road and in 1988 the first floor of 29 Preston Old Road was also taken over by the surgery giving us a small Administration Office, Kitchen area, Consulting Rooms 2 and 3, enabling downstairs to be transformed into a Reception Area, Waiting Area, Consulting Room 1 and a larger Treatment Room.

1990’s

In May 1993 the Doctors bought No. 31 Preston Old Road from the dentist, Mr. Gradwell, who was retiring. With this move we were able to create upstairs a larger Administration office, Practice Manager’s office and Meeting Room whilst downstairs Consulting Rooms 4 and 5 and increased waiting room area.

The rear extension was built in early 1996, creating Consulting Rooms 6 and 7. From then we became known as Witton Medical Centre because we embraced more than just general GP’s and started other in-house surgeries such as

  • Family Planning
  • Ante-Natal
  • Diabetic CHD and Asthma Clinics
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Counselling

2000’s

In 2001 the original Consulting Room 1 was incorporated into the Reception area and in August 2004 the new Consulting Room 1 was created from part of the waiting area.

In September 2008 Witton Medical Centre has undergone a disabled access review and multiple improvements have been made to further improve services for disabled people.

Room 7 was formed from the reception area as records became computerized, and the paper records could be stored elsewhere.
