The practice operates a choice of same day appointments and those which can be pre-booked in advance.
When you ask for an appointment the receptionist will ask if you would mind explaining briefly what the problem is. This is called ‘triage’ and is to make sure that you see the right person and that those who need to see a doctor actually get seen. It may be better to see a Clinical Practitioner rather than a doctor, they deal with most patient presentations and are able to prescribe medication and to make appropriate referrals as necessary.
Same Day Appointments
For same day appointments we ask that you phone the surgery before 10.00am. Phone 01254 617941 After that time we cannot guarantee you being seen on the same day and you may be asked to call back the following morning.
For those who prefer to pre-book appointments for a specific GP, these can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance.
We do have a significant non-attendance rate for pre-bookable appointments. If you no longer need the appointment please telephone the surgery to cancel so that the appointment can be offered to someone else.
Booking Appointments Electronically
A few appointments are available for online booking for the Doctors and Clinical Practitioners. Patients may book online up to 2 weeks in advance; the system will ask for a reason for your request.
To use this system you must be registered for this, see below to register or use.
The Clinical Practitioners are able to prescribe and see a variety of conditions but if you are considering making an electronic booking with one of them, please note that they do not do things such as blood tests or blood pressure readings. These are performed by the Treatment Room staff and should be booked in the normal way.
Please note that some consultations take place upstairs. If you cannot use the stairs then consider booking via reception and not using the on-line booking system who will be able to tailor your requirements better.

Extended Hours Evening Appointments
These appointments are aimed at patients who struggle to see someone due to work commitments. There are only a limited amount of appointments and they can be booked in advance.
Witton Medical Centre is a member of Blackburn with Darwen’s Local Primary Care Federation, which means at times we can share appointments with other surgeries.
The extended access service provides additional appointments at four other local practices which our patients can access should they require a more flexible consultation. Please ask our reception staff if you require further information.
Doctors and Clinical Practitioner Appointments
These are for routine non-urgent care.
Practice Nurse Appointments
These will include smears, asthma reviews, family planning and HRT.
For everything else you will need to attend during normal surgery hours.
Access for Evening Surgery Appointments
For security reasons and because we have limited staff later in the evening, access is by the door entry intercom and by appointment only.
Two for One Appointments
Please note that ONE APPOINTMENT SLOT IS FOR ONE PERSON
When booking an appointment each patient is given an allocated time. The time is to allow an appropriate consultation length of time for one person. If you want more than one person to be seen by the GP then you must make a separate appointment. Please do not ask the doctor to see an extra patient who does not have an appointment.
It is unfair on other patients who have made their appointments and on the doctor whose surgery then runs late.
When you arrive for your appointment you must ‘book in’ either by using the Touch Screen self check-in in the waiting room or at the Reception Desk.
Late for Appointments
Please arrive on time for your appointment.
If you are late you will be unable to book in on the Touch Screen and will have to go to Reception. If you are 10 minutes late or more the doctor may not be able to see you – if it is agreed that they will there may then be a wait.
